Manchester City wrap up this weekend’s Premier League action when they travel to Selhurst Park on Monday night to take on Crystal Palace.

The Eagles managed to beat City when they last met in October, with Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher scoring in a 2-0 victory at the Etihad.

It was a well-deserved win for Palace on an afternoon that saw Aymeric Laporte sent off. A similar result would have huge implications for City’s title challenge, with Liverpool facing an out-of-form Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

By the time Pep Guardiola’s side kick-off Selhurst Park at 8pm, they could be just three points clear of the Merseyside club in the table.

Guardiola knows the importance of grabbing a win against Palace, but is also wary of the threat they can offer.

“Seeing the run Crystal Palace are on right now, one loss in their last eight games, the quality they have, especially up front with [Wilfried] Zaha, when they defend deep they are difficult to break down… Selhurst Park is always a difficult place to go,” the Catalan said in Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

Palace have lost just one of their last seven games in all competitions, and head into the clash on the back of two consecutive victories. They have proven a difficult side to beat since the turn of the year, and the London club’s only losses in the past two months have been to Chelsea and Liverpool.

As for City, they drew last time out in the almost irrelevant Champions League second leg against Sporting Lisbon. But in the league, they’ve bounced back from that 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur with wins over Everton and Manchester United.

City and Palace could even meet for a third time this season, with both clubs still in the FA Cup.

Monday also offers an opportunity for Guardiola and Patrick Vieira to renew acquaintances, with the pair knowing each other well from their time at the City Football Group.

Guardiola said in the build-up to the game that Vieira ‘knows the smell of the competition’ and said the Frenchman was ‘one of the best players’ in the history of the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Vieira said City will have to ‘work as a team’ if they’re to come away with three points against the champions once again. “We’ll have to be solid, work well and it’s about defending well as a team and at the same time creating those moments to create chances and score goals. We know we are capable of doing that,” said the 45-year-old.

“This is a team that manages to score goals and create chances. We’ll have to be at our best and defend well but we have to create chances and it’s important to take them.”

What’s the latest team news?

City are hoping to have Joao Cancelo and Nathan Ake available for the trip to the capital. The pair both missed the midweek draw with Sporting, and Guardiola had no fresh updates in his press conference.

Ruben Dias is still out with a hamstring issue, while Zack Steffen and Cole Palmer are not expected to be fit in time for the encounter.

Kyle Walker was suspended for the Champions League game against Sporting, but is eligible to play at Selhurst Park.

Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish were rested for the game, while Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez only played a half. All six are likely to start for the match against Palace.

As for Vieira’s side, they’re without James McArthur and Nathan Ferguson through injury, but Joel Ward is expected to be fit following a recent knock.
