But when many think of the city and it’s influence on music culture it’s not Britpop that springs to mind. It is of course The Hacienda.
The iconic nightspot may have shut way back in 1997 but its impact on the city will certainly never be forgotten. Founded and managed by Factory Records co-creator Tony Wilson, the club was at the heart of the Madchester scene around bands such as New Order and also played a huge role in the creation of the British acid house and rave scenes.
We hope these nostalgic pictures, featuring the Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Noel Gallagher, Chemical Brothers and more take you right back to the dancefloor in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
