Friends and loved ones of a Greater Manchester teacher who died at the age of 38 are to set off on a charity walk this weekend in his memory.

Shaun Armstrong was sadly found dead at his home in Rochdale in January last year. To mark what would have been Shaun’s 40th birthday on 19 January, a group of his family and friends will be walking 40km on Saturday 21 January to raise cash for Papyrus, a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young adults and the promotion of positive mental health.

The group will set off from Oldham Athletic’s ground, Boundary Park, before heading to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, then returning to Boundary Park again. They said on their JustGiving page: “Hopefully, the money raised will help prevent other families and friends from going through the heart-breaking time we have experienced since losing Shaun.”

The fundraisers have already hit more than £9,000 in donations ahead of the walk and you can donate here.
