A Manchester City player’s wife who hit the headlines when she claimed Manchester had no good restaurants seems to have found an eatery she likes at last.

Sara Gundogan, wife of Sky Blues captain Ilkay, was snapped smiling in MUSU in the city centre with head chef Michael Shaw and her footballer husband. The model and TV presenter, who often posts photos of food from her native Italy to her own Insta account, wrote on her page that: “I finally have a favourite restaurant in Manchester. Food amazing, good service, everything perfect - not loud music. Amazing food experience.” She also posted a picture of the upmarket Japanese restaurant’s kitchen.

She cheekily tagged a national newspaper who ran a front page story when she slated Manchester’s food scene last October, asking them if they now wanted to cover ‘good positive things Manchester have [sic].”

Sara, who is pregnant, was previously embroiled in a row when she was asked on Instagram to name her favourite restaurant in the city last year. She said she struggled to name one as all the food in local eateries was ‘frozen’ and ‘horrible’, adding: “Restaurants here are focus [sic] on making money with drinks and shots like nightclubs. Not quality food. Maybe in London but in Manchester nothing, I’m sorry.”

MUSU, which describes itself as a ‘contemporary’ Japanese restaurant with European influences, offers seven and 11 course tasting menus, promising a ‘seasonal journey through the flavours and techniques of Japanese cuisine’ - with the latter £150 a head without wine pairings. It has attracted many famous fans since it opened on Bridge Street last year. Fellow City star Kevin DeBruyne and manager Pep Guardiola have also been pictured eating there recently, as has TV actress Suranne Jones and singer Jason Derulo.
