Craig Hewitt, 34, of Sherwood Walk, Bedford, who had been driving a VW Golf, was also killed.

Two other men also were seriously hurt and remain in hospital, police said on Wednesday.

Police said it is believed the VW Golf had been travelling the wrong way down the carriageway and are appealing for dashcam footage of the incident, which happened about 1am on Sunday 16 January near Wothorpe, Stamford, and also involved a Land Rover Discovery.

In tribute today, the family of Mr Hewitt said he was: “A loving father, son, brother and friend to many. We’ll keep the red flag flying high.”
