Two football fans have been charged following Manchester City’s Premier League victory against Aston Villa at Etihad yesterday.

City’s 3-2 win, which saw them lift the Premier League title, was followed by a pitch invasion, and Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was assaulted by a fan as he made his way off the pitch.

Greater Manchester police said inquiries are ongoing into that incident, with officers working in partnership with both football clubs.

The force added two football fans had now been charged in relation to other matters.

Phillip Maxwell, 28, of Anzio Row, Knowsley, has been charged with throwing a missile (pyrotechnic) onto the pitch and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today.

Paul Colbridge, 37, of Whitegate Drive, Salford, has been charged with going onto the pitch and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on 7 June.

Both have been bailed ahead of the court appearances.
