An area of Greater Manchester has been named among the best places in the UK to raise a family.

Trafford came seventh in a study by security company ADT which analysed factors such as the quality of the local schools, the general safety of the area and the number of parks.

The borough, which includes Altrincham, Urmston and Sale among other towns, ranks highly in the data which sees Waltham Forest, London, come out on top.

Trafford scored well in areas such as the percentage of oustanding and good rated schools and colleges, 83.2%, and comated to others in the top 10 has a relatively low median house price of £193,000.

Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, and Havering, again in London were second and third, with Wirral sixth. The only other Greater Manchester area in the top 20 was Wigan, which was 17th.

Wigan 83.7% and Bolton 82.6% both ranked highly when it came to the UK areas with the most highly rated schools, sitting fourth and ninth respectively. They were also ninth and 10th when it came to median house prices, on £172,000 and £175,000.
