Snow and sleet affecting travel with number of crashes on Greater Manchester motorways

Travellers are being urged to take care out and about today with sprinklings of the white stuff across the city-region and a number of road incidents.

Parts of Greater Manchester woke up on Friday to a dusting of snow and sleet showers, causing problems on the roads network.

The M62 westbound was experiencing slow traffic due to snow and there was a crash on the M6 near Wigan (between junctions 26 and 27) at 6.37am, plus congestion on the M60 following a number of collisions.

A crash on the M61 near junction 8 saw a southbound exit slip road closed for recovery work, again leading to tailbacks.

There are some delays on the M6 in Wigan after a crash near Orrell Interchange this morning (Friday, January 7)

Drivers are being advised to take care and allow extra time for journeys.
