Tyson Fury warned he’s making ‘biggest mistake’ after talks for fight against Oleksandr Usyk collapses

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk were in negotiations to crown the first four-belt heavyweight champion

Tyson Fury has been warned that he could be making the “biggest mistake of his career” after opting not to test himself against Oleksandr Usyk.

The WBC titleholder, 34, and Usyk, 36, who currently holds the WBO, IBF and WBA, were in talks to put everything on the line to crown the first four-belt heavyweight champion before discussions collapsed.

Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, told BT Sport that the Gypsy King has a “complex personality” as he explained why not going ahead with the fight could be a mistake for Fury’s career.

Although born in Manchester, current world heavyweight champ Tyson Fury lives in Morecambe with his wife Paris and their six children - with another on the way. Alex said: “Yes, he is the champion. Yes, he has the right to do things that he wants to do. But at the end of the day, he is a professional boxer, and his main assignment is to perform for the boxing fans. That is why I think if this fight does not take place, that would be one of the biggest mistakes that Tyson Fury could ever make in professional boxing career.”

It has been said that the Ukrainian side ended the talks after there were disagreements over finances and compensation. However Oleksandr Usyk’s team claims it was down to unacceptable demands from Fury’s end.

Alex Krassyuk said that he would “love” to see the boxers fight and argued Fury should go ahead with the match for their fans.

Alex added: "As just a normal Ukrainian I would love my compatriot to become the undisputed champion in the second weight division. From our side, it’s only plus, plus, plus."

Fans have taken to the Gypsy King’s Instagram comment section to give their verdict on if he should go ahead with fighting Usyk.

One challenged him saying: “Tyson, I thought it was never about money? Or are you scared you might lose to Usyk? Come on, make the fight!!”

Another added: “people are seeing what Tyson Fury really is. 💩 Usyk called his bluff twice and Fury was still trying to get out of the fight. Please enjoy your life in Marbella you previously said it’s never about the money but you’ve been exposed 😂”
