Love Island 2023: Kai Fagan ridiculed for swapping between girls after saying he’s ‘looking for a wifey for lifey’

ITV2’s Love Island returned to screens last night (16 January) and is already becoming the most talked about show on TV.

New Islander Kai Fagan,24 from Manchester, left viewers cringing after using the term “wifey for lifey”, before switching between three of the female contestants in the first coupling of the series.

Speaking to all the boys, Love Island host Maya Jama asked: “who’s looking for love and who’s looking for a bit of fun?”

Science teacher Kai quipped that he was on the show to find a wife, after video footage showed the semi-pro rugby player claiming that he has been single for 18 months since his last relationship of two years ended.

The show returned to South Africa for the winter series afer a three year hiatus due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Viewers were quick to mock Kai’s claims, one wrote: ‘“Wifey for lifey” I just threw up my dinner thanks babe”

Another joked: “I just wanna try all the flavours and see which one is a wifey for lifey".

A third added: “’This “wifey 4 lifey” thing better not the slogan for this series. I will not tolerate 8 weeks of grown men talking like teenage boys”

A fourth commented: “The lingo these boys are using ‘birds’ ‘wifey for lifey’ like boys pleaseeee the cringe factor is too highhh”.

After claiming he was looking for ‘the one’ Kai was first matched with Anna-Mae.

He was then re-coupled with Olivia who ‘stole’ him from Anna-Mae, even though he hadn’t stepped forward for her. Kai then shocked onlookers by stepping forward for Tanyel and being re-coupled for a third time.

Superfan and former Love Island star Zara McDermott quickly spotted similarities between Kai and her ex from the show Adam Collard.

Zara shared an image of her TV watching Love Island on her Instagram stories with the caption: “Is this Adam Collard reincarnated?”

Adam Collard first featured in the 2018 series of Love Island and quickly became known as a bit of a bad-boy for his in-decisive behaviour. In his first few days Adam switched between three different girl - Kendall Rae-Knight, Rosie Williams, Zara Mcdermott.

Ex-Love Islander Zara, is now dating Made in Chelsea and Love Island podcaster Sam Thompson.

Fans were shocked after Adam returned to the island in the 2022 series and dated Paige Thorne. After leaving the villa and declaring their love for one another the couple soon split up.
