Many of us are looking forward to a welcome return to foreign jaunts in the coming months, with travel restrictions being eased as head into Easter, half-term and summer.
However, cast your mind back a few generations and holidays meant quite a different experience.
A trip to the seaside or a camping expedition was a huge novelty for most youngsters and a real treat to look forward to with their pals.
For those from less affluent backgrounds, charitable organisations sometimes stepped in to provide a trip away from urban areas, which gave children some good sea air or an escape from daily life.
