Following a sinister stalking storyline that has been brewing for weeks, fans witnessed character, Ryan Conner, being doused in acid by the brutal Justin.

Holly began by pointing out what a “departure” this role was from the actor’s usual comedic character.

Discussing his initial reaction to the storyline, Ryan said: “It was good to get my teeth stuck into something with a little more substance”.

An enthralled Alison Hammond complimented the build up before asking how much “research” Ryan had to complete in order to convey the character’s emotions.

Ryan responded: “You kind of have to go down the rabbit hole, there is a lot of reading but also however much research you do, you can never quite comprehend this extreme level of violence”

However the humble actor added: “I met with some people from The Katie Piper Foundation, a gentleman called Andreas Christopheros who I think has been on this show a couple of times.”

Holly said: “hearing that first hand experience must help you.”

Ryan explained that not all acid attacks get reported and there were at least 300 in Manchester in 2022.

In the scene that Ryan performed in Corrie, Daisy ran to the bathroom to get water and Holly questioned: “Is this the right thing to do?”

Ryan confirmed that this was an “important message” that they wanted to get across. He confirmed that "if this ever were to happen” it is essential to try and get water to the injury.

The actor went on to describe the feeling on set saying that “everyone had a feeling of respect and wanted to get the story told in the right way”.

Ryan’s character will now have to wear a prosthetic going forward and a curious Alison questioned him about the process.

The actor said “it takes about an hour to put on and an hour to take off” but complimented the amazing make-up team for their skill. He then went on to discuss the difficulties they would have going forward in terms of “continuity and skin discolouration”.

When questioned by Holly Willoughby about the importance of continuing seeing Ryan’s recovery in detail, Ryan replied: “That is one thing we wanted to include, some kind of longevity within the parameters of soap”.

He added that “attacked survivors go through hundreds of operations and multiple skin grafts and quite often a lifetime of post-traumatic stress disorder”.

It is clear both actors, writers and the team plan to cover Ryan’s path to recovery in detail.

Over the past few weeks, fans have seen Daisy, played by Charlotte Jordan, being stalked by Justin, played by former Hollyoaks actor, Andrew Still, whom she met at the hospital. After the initial meeting Justin became infatuated with her, buying her flowers, watching her and even entering her house claiming he’d been thinking about their future wedding.

Following Justin’s arrest, Daisy nervously continued to plan her own wedding to fiance Daniel, Rob Mallard. Despite a number of disastrous wedding cancellations, Ryan stepped in to play the hero so as to walk Daisy down the aisle.

Last night we saw Ryan heading into the Rovers Return to pick up the beautiful bride. He was shocked to find her stalker, Justin, lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce on Daisy. Justin advanced towards Daisy holding a glass of clear liquid and uttered the brutal words: “You think everyone wants you because you’re so perfect, don’t you? No-one’s going to want you after this.”

Ryan leapt in to save her and the terrifying storyline culminated with Ryan being doused in acid and suffering horrific burns.

Ryan took to Twitter, saying: “Thank you to all the people reaching out over last nights @itvcorrie It was a tough watch but glad to see that the hard work from the cast & crew paid off onscreen. A massive congratulations to the whole team who put it all together”

Whilst some viewers questioned the appropriateness of the content, there was no question of how incredible the acting was.

Viewers took to social media to air their opinions.

One commented: “Ryans screams went straight through to my soul. Absolutely agonising and heartbreaking to watch but incredible acting by both Ryan and Daisy”
