The swinging 60s were certainly a memorable time in Manchester - we’ve found some great pictures in the archives.
The 1960s were well known for as being a defining decade in Britain, with the birth of flower power, free love and counter-culture.
Music, fashion and footballers were at the forefront of the cultural revolution, not least of all in Manchester where a young George Best arrived in the city in 1961 and went on to make an indelible mark. Coronation Street also arrived on our screens in 1960 and remains a prime-time show to this day.
Piccadilly Gardens was in full bloom in the days when it actually looked like a garden, and while not everyone had it easy, kids still enjoying playing games with their pals on the street.
We’ve had a look back through the archives and pulled out some memorable local images across the decade, in no particular order, to take you back to a different era.
