We’ve taken a look back through the archives to some of the roles women did in their working lives in Manchester, from the 1900s to 1940s.

The pandemic has changed the world of work for many of us over the last two years or so, with home working and hybrid working becoming the norm for some of us - and employers now realising they can’t always find enough staff to fill roles in some sectors.

But rewind a century or so and workplaces in Manchester looked rather different to today.

The turn of the 20th century was an important time for working women in particular, as they made their mark in a number of roles and further showed during the First World War they were as capable as men in different professions.

We’ve had a look back through the archives and grabbed just a snapshot of some of the jobs in which women worked in Manchester, between the 1900s and 1940s.
