Mr Bennett thanked police for their work, as officers in white suits were pictured again today on the moor. They are acting on a tip-off by author Russell Edwards, who has been looking into the possible location of Keith’s remains and claimed to have found a bone fragment last week.

12-year-old Keith Bennett was murdered by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in 1964. 12-year-old Keith Bennett was murdered by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in 1964.

However, Mr Bennett expressed frustration that the author had apparently not ‘been exact’ enough in the location given to police, who say they have not found any confirmed human remains in their search to date.

What did Alan Bennett say?

Mr Bennett posted to Facebook earlier this week: “I still believe Keith is not in that location and I still believe there were no other victims. However, nobody can rule anything else out. I just cannot understand why nothing has been found....

“I am just getting frustrated, annoyed, confused and feeling a lot more emotions because there is more to this than meets the eye and I cannot understand why that bloke appears not to have been exact in his information to the police about the location. Surely, he cannot have forgotten exactly where it is...”

He added: “I would like to publicly thank the Cold Case Team and the Forensic Team for all they are doing on the moor and for keeping me informed.”

When did Keith Bennett go missing?

Keith disappeared on his way to see his grandma in Longsight in 1964 and Ian Brady and Myra Hindley were later convicted of his murder. However, his remains have sadly never been found and Brady and Hindley, who murdered five youngsters, failed to reveal the location before they died.

His mum Winnie died in 2012 without being able to give her son a proper burial.
