The awards are being hosted in Manchester for the first time ever. In 2024, the awards ceremony will mark its 30th anniversary. The first event took place in Berlin in 1994, and since then the awards event has grown to be a worldwide occasion. The 2023 event was due to be hosted in Paris for what would have been the first time since 1995. However, due to the conflict in Gaza it was cancelled and the winners received their awards at a later date.
