An 18-year-old man was also seriously injured in the accident in central Manchester on Monday night.

A teenage girl has died following a crash on Mancunian Way.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 11.45pm on Monday (10 January) and found a white Mercedes car had hit a railway bridge.

The front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at hospital. The 18-year-old male rear-seat passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and police say he remains in a critical condition.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing, GMP said on Tuesday morning.
