Birmingham-based airline Flybe has announced that it will be in the air again from this spring.

The company went into administration in March 2020 during the first Covid lockdown due to high operating costs and planes being grounded.

Flybe will operate again from April 2022, with 530 flights per week being launched across 23 routes at airports in Belfast, Birmingham, Leeds and more.

So, are flights coming through Manchester Airport? Here’s all you need to know.

What happened to Flybe?

As the grip of coronavirus on the UK grew stronger, the travel market was one of the hardest hit sectors, with planes at airports all over the country grounded.

Flybe was forced into administration in March 2020, and 2,400 staff lost  their jobs.

Before its demise, Flybe flew the most UK domestic flights between airports outside of London.

How has Flybe made a comeback?

Thirteen months after Flybe went bust, Thyme Opco purchased the airlines assets and business in April 2021, and renamed the company Flybe Limited.

The CEO of Flybe, Dave Pflieger, released a statement upon the company’s return stating: “We think our new flights will benefit everyone who wants low fares and more flights to go on holiday and visit loved ones.

"Our new network will also ensure better regional connectivity inside the UK and between various UK and EU regions.

“Our goal is to create an airline that people love, and we aim to do that by making air travel on Flybe an easy and enjoyable experience so you will fly with us again in the future.

"The new Flybe team has worked tirelessly over the past year to create an airline that delivers on price, schedule, and choice.”

What flights are available?

As well as resuming its domestic routes, Flybe will also operate flights overseas, offering international flights to Amsterdam from Belfast City, Birmingham, East Midlands and London Heathrow.

Flights are set to resume on April 13, and can be booked via Flybe.com.
