Trafford Council has teamed up with local police to dish out fines to 19 football fans - for weeing in people’s gardens or side streets near Old Trafford.

Residents on Elton Street and Railway Road in Stretford have complained that some fans attending games at Old Trafford are causing a nuisance by urinating in their alleyways and gardens.

Trafford Council enforcement officers and local neighbourhood police teams have been patrolling the area on match days ‘to catch fans in the act’ - and have given 19 fans fixed penalty notices of £150 each so far.

The council says it will continue to patrol the area on match days and continue to hand out fines to those caught urinating.

What else has been done about it?

Coun Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s executive member for environmental and regulatory Services, said: “This is a disgusting act and we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our communities. This is a serious health and wellbeing issue and we will continue to come down hard on those who think this is acceptable. Please do not think it is okay to urinate in public places like this – not only is it horrendous, it is also a criminal offence.

“People’s children play in the rear gardens and alleyways and their bedrooms overlook the alleyways where the football fans are urinating. Would you want your child to witness this? We have already fined a number of people and will continue to do so until this stops for good. It is simply awful and shameful behaviour.”

Trafford Council had placed signs in the area to discourage people from entering the alleyways. Temporary plastic barriers were also put across alley entrances during match days but they were simply pushed aside.
