Cheetham Hill: man arrested in double rape probe in Manchester

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following two reports of women being raped in Cheetham Hill this week.
Sometime between 11pm-12am on Tuesday 9 August, on Cheetham Hill Road, a woman in her 20s reported being approached by an unknown man who raped her.

Hide AdThe second incident was at around 4.30am on Wednesday 10 August on Beech Mount, Cheetham Hill, where a woman in her 40s reported being approached by an unknown man before being assaulted and raped. The woman was left with significant injuries to her face.
She needed medical treatment and both women have been offered support from specialist services, police said.
Detective Inspector Tim Berry, of GMPs City of Manchester CID, said: "These incidents will understandably cause worry among the local community and I’d like to reassure people that we have stepped up our patrols in the area on a 24 hour a day basis, to help keep people safe while our investigation progresses.
“We are following up on a number of strong lines of enquiry and are working to locate the offender as quickly as possible. We do believe that these two incidents are linked and that one male offender was responsible.
