Manchester roads closures for 2021 Conservative Party conference: full list 29 Sept-8 Oct plus parking & trams

The city council has confirmed road closures which start from tonight (Wednesday 29 September), ahead of the Conservative party conference in Manchester, and also which on-street car parking will be affected.

Thousands of visitors are expected in Manchester this week into next with the arrival of the Tory party conference, which runs from Sunday 3 October to Wednesday 6 October in the city centre.

Security will be tight and a number of roads are being closed in the city centre to accommodate the conference.

Manchester City Council has now published a full list of road closures online.

They will take place in three phases: here’s what you need to know:

Phase One: road closures from 6pm on Wednesday 29 September onwards

    Lower Mosley Street inbound (from Great Bridgewater Street to Windmill Street) except for access to Bishopsgate and Manchester Central NCP car park ​
    Mount Street (between Windmill Street and Peter Street) ​
    Windmill Street (between Lower Mosley Street and Watson Street) ​
    Southmill Street (between Windmill Street and Peter Street) ​
    Museum Street

    Phase Two: road closures from 6.30pm on Thursday 30 September onwards

      The above road closures from Phase One will continue with the addition of these extra additional closures:
      Peter Street (between Southmill Street and Oxford Street)
      Mount St (between Peter St and Central St)
      Access only to: Oxford Street (between Portland Street and Peter Street) ​
      Access only to: Hall Street and Bale Street

      Phase Three: road closures from 6pm on Saturday 2 October onwards

        The above road closures from Phase One & Two will continue with the addition of these extra additional closures:
        Peter Street (between Deansgate and Southmill Street) ​
        Southmill Street (between Windmill Street and Bootle Street) ​
        Marron Place ​
        Jerusalem Place ​
        Lower Mosley Street inbound (from Manchester Central NCP car park and Great Bridgewater Street) ​
        Trafford St (Century St to end – access for Deansgate Locks businesses)

        When will the road closures end?

        The city council says road restrictions will begin to be removed once the conference ends on Wednesday 6 October and these will all be complete by Friday 8 October.

        How will on-street parking be affected?

        Pay and Display parking will be suspended on these streets:

        • Museum Street (between Windmill Street and Peter Street) from 08:00 Tuesday 28 September to Friday 8 October
        • Mount Street (between Windmill Street and Peter Street) from 16:00 Wednesday 29 September to Friday 8 October
        • Southmill Street (between Windmill Street and Peter Street) from 16:00 Wednesday 29 September to Friday 8 October
        • Peter Street/Mount St disabled bays next to Central Library from 16:00 Thursday 30 September to Friday 8 October
        • Peter Street (between Deansgate and Southmill St) already suspended for tables and chairs social distancing measures.
        • Southmill St (10 bays between Peter Street and Lloyd Street) from 16:00 Saturday 2 October to Friday 8 October
        • Lloyd St (10 bays between Deansgate and Southmill St) from 08:00 to 16:00 for Sunday 3 October only
        • 7 disabled parking bays on Peter Street next to the Central Library will be suspended from 16:00 Thursday 30 September to Friday 8 October
        • 7 on Mount St next to Central Library will be suspended from 16:00 Thursday 30 September to Friday 8 October
        • Pay and display parking bays on Jackson’s Row will be converted to disabled parking bays from 16:00 Thursday 30 September to Friday 8 October. Access to Jackson’s Row will be via Bootle Street to Southmill Street as Peter Street will be closed.
        • Finally, 2 disabled parking bays on Mount Street next to the Midland Hotel will be suspended from 16:00 on Wednesday 29 September to Friday 8 October.
