Bolton rape arrest as police probe town centre assault on Bradshawgate

A man has been arrested in connection with a report of a rape in Bolton town centre in the early hours of today.

At around 2.20am (Wednesday 20 April), officers were called to the rear of the Newspaper building on Bradshawgate, where a woman in her 30s was assaulted, GMP said.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in custody. A cordon remains in the area.

Detective Inspector David Sinclair, from GMP’s Bolton district, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim who is understandably distressed and receiving the appropriate care and support.

“We currently have one person in custody and I’d like to reassure the community and those nearby that we’re carrying out a thorough, detailed investigation and officers will be in the area today following up a number of lines of enquiry.
