It’s always a good day when Blossoms make announcements, or even tease announcements. With this in mind, the band from Stockport have rounded off April with a couple of videos that teased exciting news.

The first showed all the members of the band standing next to a road in pretty gloomy weather. Playing over the top was a new song, with frontman Tom Ogden’s iconic voice instantly recognisable.  Ogden is closest to the camera, with the rest of the band standing on the other side of the road as cars race by. The post was shared with the caption ‘Blossom5’, a big hint that studio album number five is in the works.

The second, and even more exciting, video was confirmation of a new single that is set for release on Wednesday May 1. The clip shared on social media showed the band hanging out with a surprise guest - Everton manager Sean Dyche.

The manager sends the band on a mission, an ‘impeccable plan’ that he has devised for Blossoms - a plan that is jeopardised by the band's van breaking down. Dyche is then seen to be nodding along to the track called ‘What Can I Say (After I’m Sorry)’.

A new album usually leads fans to think that a tour is not far behind. Blossoms shows have been few and far between in 2024, with a small gig at Manchester Academy in the history books, and a slot in Liam Gallagher’s Malta festival and a huge takeover of Wythenshawe Park on the horizon.

When did Blossoms last release an album?

So far, Blossoms have four studio albums to their name and their debut self-titled album was released in 2016. The new music came thick and fast and in 2018 ‘Cool Like You’ was brought into the world followed in 2020 by ‘Foolish Loving Spaces’.

In April 2022, Blossoms brought out their fourth album to a great deal of praise. ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’ is filled with the usual upbeat tunes you’d expect from this band now, with ‘Care For’ being one of the band's bigger tracks from the album.

When could we see a new Blossoms album released?

If Blossoms want to keep to their pattern of album release, which has been every two years since 2016, then album number 5 will come out in 2024. ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’ was released in late April, so there’s no chance of it coming out around this time in 2024, but perhaps a late summer release could be on the cards?
