Biker killed in collision with lorry in Westhoughton, Bolton

The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was later released under investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died following a collision in Bolton.

Officers attended an accident involving a motorbike and truck on Manchester Road, Westhoughton, at 12.30pm on Tuesday (19 July).

The biker, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, a man in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and later released under investigation.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments before the collision.

What have police said?

PC Simon Venguedasalon, of SCIU's Specialist Operation, said: “My thoughts firstly go out to the loved ones of the man who has sadly lost his life and we are doing all we can to support his family at this difficult time.

“Work is well underway to understand the circumstances of this incident and after making an arrest at the scene, there is still a thorough investigation to take place.
