Brazilian and Greater Manchester Police issue updates on year-long investigation into Manchester United star

Manchester United winger Antony has been cleared of allegations of domestic abuse in Brazil, according to reports.

Former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin claimed in an interview she had been the victim of several attacks from the Old Trafford star - including in Manchester - with pictures and screenshots of messages posted online.

Now, according to Globo.com, Sao Paulo Civil Police have said there is no evidence of wrongdoing at their end and have concluded their inquiries. Greater Manchester Police have however told Manchester World that their investigation is “ongoing”.

The allegations led to the £85million winger taking “a period of absence” from Old Trafford and being dropped from the Brazil squad. He appeared in the media and made statements on social media maintaining his innocence.

Antony posted on Instagram at the time: “Out of respect for my fans, friends and family, I feel obliged to speak out publicly about the false accusations I have been the victim of.

“From the beginning I have treated this matter with seriousness and respect, providing the necessary clarifications before the police authority. The police investigation is under judicial secrecy, and therefore I cannot make its contents public.
