11 exciting new Manchester restaurants to check out this October including Sexy Fish and Popeye's

Manchester’s food scene is constantly evolving and it’s often hard to keep track of all the openings and closures.

There have been some big losses this year, from large multi-kitchen venues like Sale Food Hall and, most recently, Hatch, to the Northern Quarter’s original indie coffee shop North Tea Power. Even the more high-end restaurants like the Stock Exchange Grill and Rio Ferdinand’s Rosso were not immune to the struggles that are facing the entire hospitality industry at the moment.

However, for every restaurant, cafe and bar we lose in Manchester, several more are sure to pop up in their place and it seems. Here is our roundup of some of the recent and upcoming new arrivals to the Manchester food and drink scene.

What is already open?

It has been a very busy few weeks for new openings in Greater Manchester, here are a few that have already caught our eye.

Mean Eyed Cat  – A Deep South-inspired bar located at 60 Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter. They have an impressive line-up of house and classic cocktails, but their biggest selling point has to be the fact you get a free pizza with every drink.

New Wave Ramen – A modern ramen spot open now on 16 Tib Lane. You may recognise this spot from Mackie Mayor, where they have had a kitchen since summer 2020.

Bernie’s Canteen – Previously Bernie’s Grocery Store, this Altrnicham-based independent business has transformed itself into a cafe, but still keeping some retail. You can find it at 30 Central Way, Altrincham

Chit n Chaat – This Indian street food spot, which already has successful stores in Rusholme and Cheadle, has now opened in one of Manchester’s newest (and tallest) neighbourhoods, Deansgate Square.

What else can we expect in October?

Here are some dates for your diary:

(12 October) Sexy Fish – The high-end Mayfair sushi restaurant is opening at 2 Spinningfields Square. The interiors are expected to be especially opulent, featuring artwork for Damien Hirst.

(12-22 October) Love From – If you’re curious about cutting out alcohol or looking to connect with other sober people, this alcohol-free pop-up bar is opening for a limited time at Kampus.

(14 October) Alfredo’s Social – Stockport is slowly turning into yet another foodie hotspot, especially if this new opening is anything to go by. Located at 23 Little Underbank, this Italian spot will serve neapolitan pizzas, small plates, salads and charcuterie.

(20 October) House of Fu – Opening at 13-115 Portland St, Manchester, House of Fu is a ramen and cocktail spot where you can also enjoy a bit of karaoke, as well as DJs and music.

(22 October) Broadway Diner –If you dream of theWest End and know all the words to Les Mis and Cats, then this new opening at the Trafford Centre. This Broadway-themed restaurant will feature a cast of singing waiters.

(26 October) Popeyes – This popular Louisiana fried chicken joint is opening its first Manchester spot at One Piccadilly Gardens.

Bondi Bowls – This delicious health food spot is moving to Kampus after the surprise closure of their previous home at Hatch. It is expected to open in the next few weeks.
