It is the first time Manchester has made it into this elevated global company.

It caps off a successful few weeks for the business run by brothers Joe and Daniel Schofield as they recently opened a new venue in the hotel owned by former Manchester United star Gary Neville.

The inclusion of Schofield’s in the list of the top 100 places around the world to grab a drink is a first for the city and the first time a bar not in London or Edinburgh has been included.

Schofield’s, which is located on Little Quay Street, is described online as a ”polished, old-world venue” which specialises in cocktails, charcuterie and popcorn.

It is located in the corner of Sunlight House, an art deco building which was the tallest in Manchester when it was first opened in the 1930s.

Joe and Daniel Schofield have racked up more than a quarter of a century’s experience bartending and Schofield’s represents their long-held ambition of returning to their home city and opening their own establishment.

The place has already been crowned the UK’s best bar at the Class Bar Awards and the brothers recently opened a new high-end venue in the Stock Exchange Hotel run by the well-known ex-footballer and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

The bar owners tweeted they were ‘lost for words’ at the latest accolade.

Where else has made it onto the list and when will the world’s best bar be named?

The World’s 50 Best Bars will be announced on the 4 October in Barcelona.

The list is selected by an international panel comprising over 650 independent drinks experts from around the world.

What has been said about the list?

Mark Sansom, director of content for The World’s 50 Best Bars, said: “We are delighted to see so many new cities appear on the extended list for the first time – being able to recognise 32 different global cities out of the available 50 positions is particularly pleasing.

“All the bars announced today have continued, with outstanding resilience, to overcome the challenges that still face the industry, and it gives us great pleasure to celebrate double the number of establishments and their achievements.”
