We're just days into 2024 and the Manchester events schedule is already filling up.
This is year the Co-op Live arena will open, the year we host several international events and the year we become the official European Cycling Capital.
We've put together a list of 24 essential Mancunian activities to try out in 2024 - whether you're new to the city or a lifelong resident.
1. Explore Greater Manchester on foot
The new GM Ringway walking trail covers the whole region. There are 20 stages in total, split into four broad sections which each consist of five one-day stretches. You can just pick one section, or challenge yourself to do the whole thing during the course of the year. The route also highlights museums, landmarks and historic sites along the way.
2. Traditional pub tour
New bars are popping up each month, but nothing beats Manchester’s historic pubs that have stood the test of time. You can devise your own tour or book onto one of the guided tours that specialise in historic pubs.
3. Get running
Applications are open for the Great Manchester Run, the Manchester Marathon, half and 10k. There are races for all abilities, whether you’re running in a costume for charity or on a mission to get your new PB and smash your 2024 fitness goals.
4. Support the arts at HOME
The multi-purpose arts venue is a great place to spend the afternoon, even if you just pop in for a coffee, drink or meal at the restaurants there. The ground floor gallery is free to enter, and it is also home to a theatre and cinema, where they show all the blockbusters as well as foreign films, cult favourites, indies and classics.
