Television presenter Davina McCall has become the latest famous name to try out a Greater Manchester restaurant famed for its deliberately bad service.

The Long Lost Families host, her partner and a group of pals visited Karen’s Diner in Prestwich, where guests can expect to be insulted and sworn at by rude waiting staff as part of the wacky experience. And Davina shared a hilarious and rather bizarre video of her visit the Bury New Road diner last week to her Instagram page, where a waitress calls her ‘boring’ and swears and boos at a friend who says she’s a vegetarian.

The video has more than 10,000 likes and has been commented on by celebrities including fellow presenters Rylan, who said ‘I’m so jealous’ and Emma Willis who dubbed the video ‘brilliant’. However, a few people replied: “Why would anyone enjoy that?!”

Karen’s Diner cheekily replied to Davina’s post saying: ‘Don’t come back.’

Davina revealed she made a trip to Prestwich especially to visit the restaurant from her home in Kent. She posted: “We made a pilgrimage from Tunbridge Wells to Manchester and back in a day to go to the almighty @karensdinerofficial . Amber took terrible care of us - she was totally hilarious . Our greeting by front of house was brilliant It was so so so funny . Tag line to Karen’s diner is ‘great food terrible service’ … it HAS to be experienced… highlights include Harriet getting her veggie burger with a flag on a cocktail stick in it.”

The 1950s style American restaurant launched in Manchester last year and promises a unique ‘interactive’ dining experience with ‘the most fun you’ve ever had eating burgers’. Its website advises customers to “just sit down, shut up, eat your food and bring on the banter.” It started life in Australia and now has five branches in the UK including Birmingham and Sheffield, and serves burgers, hotdogs and fries.
