Five of the best Manchester beer gardens to enjoy the sun in - as recommended by Google reviewers

With a mini heatwave forecast for this week, we’ve checked in with Google’s army of reviewers for their favourite city beer gardens.

Late summer sun is on the way, with temperatures predicted to peak at 27C in Manchester mid-week - and it could be your last opportunity to hit the beer gardens for a while with thunderstorms predicted straight afterwards.

Tuesday and Wednesday (7th and 8th September) look set to bring the best of the weather before the rain returns on Thursday.

With more and more pubs to choose from opening up outdoor spaces for drinkers, we asked Google Reviews for their top tips on picking a great city beer garden.

Here is a selection of five of the best-rated, which all scored pver 4.3 stars out of 5 and had over 1,000 reviews each.

Marble Arch

73 Rochdale Rd, Manchester, 4.7 stars out 5

Google reviewers reckoned this beer garden was a great place to catch some rays, with ‘excellent food’, a good locally-brewed beer selection and praise for the ‘Covid-secure’ pods at the bottom for small groups of visitors. One reviewer dubbed it “the best place in Manchester to while away an afternoon.”

Sadler’s Cat

Hanover Street, Manchester, 4.5 stars out 5

Visitors said this venue near the National Football Museum hit the spot on many fronts - some were impressed with the “huge outdoor area, amazing beer selection, natural wine, vinyl DJs”. Others praised the ‘chilled’ atmosphere and friendly staff.

The Wharf

6 Slate Wharf, Manchester, 4.5 stars out of 5Lots of reviewers rated this as a “good place to go on a sunny day”, with plenty of well-spaced seating outdoors and indoors, a pleasant atmosphere with friendly staff and good drinks selection, along with dog-friendly areas.

Sinclair’s Oyster Bar

2 Cathedral Gates, Manchester, 4.4 stars out of 5

This ever-popular pub needs no introduction, so perhaps not a surprise to see it make Google reviewers’ top list.

A great location for people-watching on a sunny day in a bustling part of the city, reviewers praised the fact there were generally plenty of tables, a good range of affordable ales and stouts, and the constrast between the ‘nice spacious outside area or lovely small and cosy inside area’.

Oast House

The Avenue Courtyard, Spinningfields, 4.3 stars out of 5

The beauty of the Oast House is, even if the weather forecast gets it wrong, there are overhead coverings in the outdoor area to keep a shower or two at bay. There is a praise for the food and the fact the outdoor area is well away from roads and traffic. One reviewer reckons it is “the best place in Manchester for live music and outside drinking, while another says “great for people watching for summer days and nights in Central Manchester.”
