When most people think of Manchester, they think of its bustling city life. But we've got to stop you right there, as beyond the Metrolink and the Northern Quarter bars, Greater Manchester has some of the finest countryside around.
In under 45 minutes by car from the city centre, you can find rolling hills, picturesque walking routes and quaint villages. As we enter 2024 we've rounded up some of our favourite villages that you've got to visit over the next 12 months.
5. Marple Bridge

6. Broadbottom

8. Delph
It was difficult to pick just one of the Saddleworth villages, of which Delph is one of the biggest. It was a filming location for the 1996 film Brassed Off and plays host to a Whit Friday brass band contest (pictured), along with several other villages in the area – a highlight in the Saddleworth cultural calendar.
