Many of us have made a new year’s resolution to get fit in 2023 and what better way to do it than joining a gym?

There are loads out there vying for your cash and wanting you to sign up as a member. But costs can be pricy and it can feel a bit intimidating to find the right one to suit you and your fitness needs. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up five of the best gyms, fitness studios and personal trainers in Manchester according to Google Reviews ratings from gym goers. To be eligible, gyms have to had more than 50 ratings and an average of more than four stars out of five.

This city centre gym is handy if you work in town and like to hit the fitness suite on your lunchbreak. Rated 4.3 stars out of five on Google reviews, it boasts 24/7 opening, dozens of exercise machines and a weights rooms. Membership starts from £19.99 a month. They also have a branch in the Great Northern Warehouse. One reviewer said: “Best gym ever. Cheap. Effective. Friendly staff. Friendly members. Clean.”

Pure Gym

Hardman Street, Manchester

This gym is spread over four floors with something for every fitness bunny with over 200 pieces of equipment. There are personal trainers available and 50 classes included within membership which starts from £16.99. It’s open 24/7 though tends to get busy around teatime according to users. One reviewer said: “This is easily the best £20.99 I spend each month. The gym is massive, friendly, open 24hrs, secure. The staff are all friendly and give great advice.”

TRIB3 Deansgate

Promising the ‘ultimate workout’, this gym is rated highly for its excellent staff. Based in Yotel, it offers high intensity HIIT work-outs in a trendy “a luxe, industrial setting” for those who like to work out in style (and snap themselves for Instagram). It’s open seven days a week but shuts at noon on Sundays. It’s at the pricey end of membership at £39 a month but you can also buy packages of sessions from £23 to try it out. One reviewer said: “The staff members are the best part of the experience.”

Ultimate Performance Personal Trainers

Hardman Boulevard, Manchester

It doesn’t get much better than nearly 500 five-star reviews but this gym clearly has some very happy customers. It promises ‘elite, results-focused training’ and has branches all over the world as well as this Spinningfields gym which opened in 2015. They admit to being ‘expensive’ (without sharing it prices online) but offer tailored personal consultations and plans if you don’t mind shelling out. It’s open 6am to 8pm on weekdays and 6am to 5pm on weekends. One reviewer said: “Joining UP was the best decision I’ve ever made and I wish I’d done it sooner. It’s not only helping me get my younger body back but it’s completely changed my lifestyle.”

This modern gym on the banks of the River Irwell also boasts a near-perfect 4.9 star rating on Google reviews. It offers one to one personal training, group training sessions and yoga. barre and pilates classes for all-round fitness. One reviewer said: “A group of excellent trainers working in a great space with high quality equipment.”
