Claire Schofield is Early News Editor for NationalWorld.com, and focuses on breaking news and explainers across a variety of topics, from health and travel to consumer guidance and business - as well as copy-editing for the news team.

She primarily covers national news but previously worked in regional media, having written for titles including the Yorkshire Evening Post, Yorkshire Post, The Scotsman and the i.

Prior to this, she was a senior reporter specialising in health and travel stories, with a particular focus on the Covid-19 pandemic. Before joining the national team she worked as a reporter in National World’s central digital team, in which she wrote for sites across the UK. In 2020, Schofield was named Rising Star of the Year in the National World company awards and was also shortlisted for Digital Journalist of the Year.

She is from Leeds and completed her MA in Magazine Journalism at Leeds Trinity University and later her National Qualification in Journalism. Prior to this, she spent three years studying for a degree in English Language at the University of Leeds.

Proudly Yorkshire born and bred, she worked as a freelance journalist for the Yorkshire Evening Post and Yorkshire Post while studying for a masters, and later worked as a feature writer for an Ilkley-based magazine called Beyond. During her time at the magazine she worked on local human interest stories, travel reviews, events content and celebrity interviews, including with pop-rock band McBusted, Olympian Nile Wilson and World Champion boxer Josh Warrington.

Her proudest career achievement to date is securing an exclusive interview for the i with My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way about his Netflix show the Umbrella Academy and the band’s possible comeback.
