Manchester United are said to be standing firm by their asking prices for two of their players this summer.

Manchester United already have a clear stance over the possible sale of Harry Maguire, according to a report.

The Red Devils have been busy this summer, snapping up signings such as Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana. Erik ten Hag has been determined to improve his squad in a bid to close the gap to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, who will be expecting to make a title run again this season.

But there is a tradeoff to such expensive signings, with United needing to balance the books to remain in check with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Two big names, in particular, are being linked with a move away, with Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire potentially finding themselves surplus to requirements this season. McTominay has already attracted interest from West Ham, but it seems the Hammers have since decided to look elsewhere, while Roma are also being linked.

As for Maguire, there hasn’t been too much talk of specific teams being interested, but United already know they are going to have to take a big loss on their £80million investment. Having said that, it seems they will not take a low fee for the centre-back, even if he is not a big part of Ten Hag’s plans for the new season.

“With regards to McTominay, at the moment, there is nothing advanced at this stage, the Londoners’ focus is on completing the [Edson] Alvarez deal,” Fabrizio Romano wrote in his Substack column. Manchester United are waiting to see if West Ham will return with a new offer for Maguire, but what I know for sure is that £20 million / £25 million will not be enough.”

In the meantime, Maguire continues to be criticised for his performances during pre-season, making a key error during the Athletic Club clash.
