Scott McTominay is attracting fresh interest with the new season rapidly approaching.

Scott McTominay’s future remains well and truly up in the air ahead of the new season.

McTominay has been a useful asset for United in midfield over recent years, but it looks as though his time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end as Erik ten Hag continues to improve the quality of his squad. It has been claimed that United are keen to sign a new holding central midfielder, with Sofyan Amrabat being linked.

That would likely mean McTominay is sold, especially with United needing to balance the books, and there is already interest in the Scotland international.

According to reports, United have already rejected an offer from West Ham for McTominay, and the Hammers are not the only team interested. According to Sacha Tavolieri, Jose Mourinho and AS Roma are interested, but the Red Devils are said to be holding out for a big transfer fee, even if McTominay becomes surplus to requirements.

Tavolieri reported: “Been told Manchester United rejected a first bid for Scott McTominay from West Ham United by claiming £40m to make the deal. The Scottish midfielder is also on AS Roma’s shortlist should Nemanja Matic leave.”

West Ham are also eyeing a deal for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez ahead of another European campaign, and it remains to be seen whether they will circle back for McTominay. Meanwhile, Roma’s interest is far from certain given the uncertainty surrounding Matic’s future this summer.

United may yet want to keep McTominay around for depth, but if they do want to sell him, and if they value the Scot as a good way to balance their books, they may have dropped the ball with their asking price, given West Ham have moved on for now. Meanwhile, Roma would have to spend a transfer record fee and are not likely to do that to land McTominay.
