The journalist said Manchester United could allow a youth-team graduate to depart.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The 26-year-old spent this season on loan at the City Ground and could return there permanently if a deal can be completed this summer. “Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Dean Henderson on a permanent deal — terms almost agreed also on the player side,” tweeted Romano.

“Man United are not intentioned to give final green light until David de Gea signs new deal,” he added, with reports linking the Red Devils no.1 with a possible exit as he enters the final month of his contract at Old Trafford, although the Spaniard is expected to agree an extension.

Henderson’s departure has been anticipated and he is among a number of players United are willing to let leave this summer. The stopper, who came through the youth system at Old Trafford, has played 29 times for United. He briefly ousted De Gea as first choice at the end of 2020/21 season but started the next campaign as second in the pecking order.

Henderson joined Forest last season and missed just one of the opening 20 league matches - against United, his parent club. But injury prevented him featuring in the second half of the campaign and Keylor Navas impressed in Henderson’s absence.

However, Forest appear to have put faith in the younger option of Henderson going forward. Sky Sports also report there is interest from the Midlands club, but believe an offer has not yet been tabled.
