Viktor Gyokeres transfer latest: Man Utd learn pecking order and "dream" obstacle

Man Utd’s quest to climb the Premier League table shouldn’t be a difficult task next season after the last campaign saw records broken for all the wrong reasons.
Since the last ball was kicked at Old Trafford on the final day of a dismal campaign things have started to look more promising with the Red Devils linked with a host of new signings for fans to get excited about.

Good players, but getting a big name like Marc-Andre ter Stegen, plus with an offer being prepared for Viktor Gyokeres, it would really provide fans with some excitement if they can get them over the line.
Viktor Gyokeres would have to give up “dream” to sign for Man Utd
As far as transfer sagas go, the “furious” Gyokeres and his feud with Sporting Lisbon looks like being one that could drag on throughout the summer with the Portuguese outfit claiming that there was no such gentleman’s agreement over the striker’s transfer valuation.
Sporting are still, reportedly, looking for £84m with the player claiming that an agreement was made last summer for him to be allowed to leave for £50m with add-ons of £8.5m. No wonder Sporting have changed their minds after a season in which the 27-year scored 39 goals in 33 league games.
The latest development sees Arsenal make a £60m plus add-ons offer with Sporting ready to negotiate and United falling further behind in their pursuit of the 27-year old, according to Record.

The team and I are eager to get started, and I think we are prepared and excited too," The Swede told UEFA.
"It's a dream to play in the UEFA Champions League, so I want to do well and have great games."
“I am in very good form, but I can still be better. We have the objective of winning every game we play, wherever it is, and in the UEFA Champions League too. Let’s see how far we can go. I always want to score and I hope to keep this up in the Champions League."
“Personally, I want to do better than last year, and I am very happy at Sporting CP," Gyokeres said in December last year.

The Europa League title might have been played down by some, however, there could be consequences for United, and Amorim, this summer.
The size of the club remains huge, but securing Champions League football would have made recruitment and the rebuild an easier task. Arsenal have a clear advantage here and their recent stability is also something that gives them an edge.
Only when the transfer window shuts will United truly understand just how big an impact it has had. Gyokeres’ situation is one that United need to take advantage of with the player now claiming that he won’t play for Sporting again because of the dispute.
Signing the Swede would complete the forward line and allow Amorim more time to tinker and less pressure to sell those who have been deemed surplus to requirements. It is now up to the board to back their manager and give him the tools he needs to get the job done.
United won’t climb the table if they are losing their top targets to teams that they consider to be their rivals.
