Tens of thousands of crimes recorded in Stockport
Tens of thousands of crimes were recorded in Stockport over the last year, official police records reveal.
Greater Manchester Police recorded 25,748 offences in Stockport in the 12 months to March, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Hide AdAt 87.5 crimes per 1,000 people, that was slightly lower than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 89.3.
This is only the second time Greater Manchester Police have been able to supply data at community safety partnership level since its implementation of a new IT system in July 2019 – meaning no comparison to the year before is possible.
Crimes recorded in Stockport included:

Of the crimes recorded in the area over the last 12 months, 822 were sexual offences – an increase of 30% from the year before.

Hide AdMeanwhile, violent crime has risen in the area, from 7,566 to 9,444 over this period.
One of the main factors behind this increase was the rise in violence with injury, which rose by 27%, from 1,803 incidents to 2,287.
And theft offences rose by 12%, with 7,483 incidents recorded in the 12 months to March.
At 25.4 crimes per 1,000 people, that was in line with the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 25.1.
