Tens of thousands of crimes recorded in Oldham
Tens of thousands of crimes were recorded in Oldham over the last year, official police records reveal.
Greater Manchester Police recorded 29,387 offences in Oldham in the 12 months to March, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Hide AdAt 123.7 crimes per 1,000 people, that was far higher than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 89.3.
This is only the second time Greater Manchester Police have been able to supply data at community safety partnership level since its implementation of a new IT system in July 2019 – meaning no comparison to the year before is possible.
Crimes recorded in Oldham included:

Of the crimes recorded in the area over the last 12 months, 898 were sexual offences – an increase of 35% from the year before.

Hide AdMeanwhile, violent crime has soared in the area, from 8,940 to 12,186 over this period.
One of the main factors behind this increase was the rise in violence with injury, which rose by 39%, from 1,905 incidents to 2,643.
And theft offences rose by 11%, with 7,367 incidents recorded in the 12 months to March.
At 31.0 crimes per 1,000 people, that was higher than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 25.1.
