Almost 100,000 crimes recorded in Manchester
Almost 100,000 crimes were recorded in Manchester over the last year, official police records reveal.
Greater Manchester Police recorded 92,751 offences in Manchester in the 12 months to March, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Hide AdAt 166.9 crimes per 1,000 people, that was far higher than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 89.3.
This is only the second time Greater Manchester Police have been able to supply data at community safety partnership level since its implementation of a new IT system in July 2019 – meaning no comparison to the year before is possible.
Crimes recorded in Manchester included:

Of the crimes recorded in the area over the last 12 months, 3,059 were sexual offences – an increase of 40% from the year before.

Hide AdMeanwhile, violent crime has soared in the area, from 20,799 to 32,465 over this period.
One of the main factors behind this increase was the rise in violence with injury, which rose by 61%, from 4,775 incidents to 7,695.
And theft offences rose by 38%, with 28,825 incidents recorded in the 12 months to March.
At 51.9 crimes per 1,000 people, that was far higher than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 25.1.
