Windows of Youth Creativity: We Made It

Artwork by young people in Manchester will be on display at 10 city centre locations starting from Saturday 22 October. The showcase is part of Manchester City Council’s 2022 Our Year campaign and will feature work of all disciplines, including photography, fashion, painting, illustration, dance, sculpture, mosaic, poetry and model making. The 10 projects can be seen on the windows or inside different venues in Manchester, such as HOME, Royal Exchange Theatre, Town Hall Annex, Science and Industry. The Art of Banksy

MediaCity

An exhibition of artwork by the infamous street artist Banksy opens at MediaCity this Friday. It includes 145 authenticated original works - the world’s largest collection of Banksy’s work. Tickets cost £21.00 for adults, £16.50 for students and £11.50 for children aged 6-15 . More information can be found on the exhibition website.

Skate Manchester

The outdoor ice skating rink at Manchester’s Cathedral Gardens opens this Friday for the winter season, kicking off with the Halloween-themed Scare Skate. New to the rink for this year is the skate track around the Christmas tree. The rink will be here until 2 January, but book online or at the ticket office to avoid disappointment.

Each session is 45 minutes and there are off-peak, peak and super peak ticket options ranging from £14.50-£17 for adults and £12.50-£15 for children aged 3-12. Family ticket, group booking and season ticket options are also available. More information can be found on their website.

The Hallé, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Symphonic Universe: The Music of The Avengers and Beyond

The Bridgewater Hall

The Bridgewater Hall has two film-themed concerts this weekend, starting on Saturday 22 October with a screening of E.T. accompanied by the resident Halle orchestra playing John Williams’ classic soundtrack.

On Sunday, the Manchester Concert Orchestra present Symphonic Universe: The Music of The Avengers and Beyond, which features soundtracks from blockbuster superhero and sci-fi films such as Danny Elfman’s Batman, Hans Zimmer’s The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel, and even more John Williams with his iconic Star Wars score. BBC Radio 1 and 1xtra film critic Ali Plumb will be MCing the event.

Tickets for both events range from £28.50 to £47.50 and can be purchased from the Bridgewater Hall website.

A new digital art exhibition is opening this weekend at charity Emmaus Department Store in Rochdale. The exhibition features work by local artist Clare McKee and all proceeds from the sale of the artwork will go to Emmaus charity, which supports homeless people in rebuilding their lives. It launches on Thursday 20 October and will be on display until January.

Emmaus Department Store is open Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm.

Blood Brothers

The Lowry, 18-22 October

The world famous musical Blood Brothers comes to the Lowry Theatre this week for five nights. The show is set in 1960s Liverpool and tells the story of twins separated at birth, who grow up on separate sides of the city. They become friends but their reunion eventually has tragic consequences. Tickets range from £20-35 and can be found on the Lowry Theatre’s website.
