When it comes to Halloween everyone loves a good pumpkin and it’s even more exciting if you can pick your own.
Here are some of our favourites within easy reach of Greater Manchester.
Dunham Pumpkin Patch
Dunham Massey, Altrincham, WA14 5SL
For more than 30 years, the Hewitt family have been growing their own pumpkins and for the first time last year decided to welcome families to join in the fun.
The Hewitt family planted around 20,000 pumpkin plants to celebrate its return for 2021. Open from 10am to 4pm every weekend, the Dunham Pumpkin Patch works on a booking only basis with prices from £5.63: see the website here.
Lancaster Park & Animal Farm
Chadderton, Oldham, OL1 2TG
Not just pumpkin picking on offer here but the chance to explore a haunted house, enter a fancy dress contest and explore the usual farm attractions in the same visit. Daily from Friday 22 October, with doors open from 9.30am. Tickets are £8.50 an adult and £11.50 a child (including a pumpkin to carve) and must be booked online via the webiste: see here.
Croston Pumpkin Patch,
Culshaws Farm, Holker Lane, Chorley, PR26 8LL
Some locations can charge a hefty fee just to get on the farm and ask you to book ages in advance. However at Croston, there is no charge - just pay for the pumpkins you pick. If you want to go through the maize maze this is charged at £1 per person with under-twos free.
Visitors are asked to use the Leyland Lane entrance with stewards on hand to direct vehicles. Weekends only, 10am-4pm, from then every day from 25 October (10am-4pm), with no booking required.
Roby Mill Pumpkin Patch
Upholland, Wigan, WN8 0QY
Entry to this patch is also free, with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes on offer and prices starting at £2. There is also merchandise you can buy afterwards to help bling up your pumpkin! Dogs are allowed if kept on a lead. Book via Eventbrite here.
