Halloween is just around the corner and what better way to get into the spooky season than with pumpkin picking?

There are many farms in Greater Manchester and the surrounding area that offer a variety of children’s activities as well as pumpkin picking. Here are some of our favourites.

Dunham Pumpkin Patch

Dunham Massey

Dunham Pumpkin Patch have planted around 28,000 this season. There are several varieties on offer, including the white ghost rider pumpkin that is perfect for Halloween.

Visitors can also take a look at the vintage tractors and there is a wagon train that’s new for this year. The Little Red Pizza Co are on site serving up wood-fired pizzas, and you can enjoy a cider or apple juice from the Apple Barn.

The pumpkin patch opens in October every weekend and then every day from 22-30 October. Tickets cost £5 per car. More information can be found on their website.

Dunham Massey Farm

Dunham Massey

Dunham Massey Farm opens in October and has 30,000 pumpkins waiting to be picked.

There is no need to book, you just need to pay for the pumpkins, which are priced according to size. Refreshments are served in their giant tee-pee, and that includes their famous homemade ice creams in special Halloween flavours. More information can be found on their website.

Cockfields Farm Park

There is much more than just pumpkin picking on offer at Cockfields Farm. The little ones can enjoy a number of activities and attractions, including a carving cave, Cuddling Corner, where you pet some of the animals at the farm, as well as reptile room of exotic animals, tractor and trailer rides, marshmallow toasting, to name but a few. New for this year is the Zelda Zapoffs Scarecrow Scareshow.

The farm is open for pumpkin picking from 8 to 30 October. Adult tickets cost £15, children’s are £20 and £5 for under ones. More information can be found on their website.

Smithills Open Farm

Smithills Open Farm is opening their pumpkin patch on 15-16 October and then all week from 22-30 October. The staff will be dressed in Halloween fancy dress for the occasion and there will also be a fancy-dress competition for the little ones.

It is free entry, but £6 per pumpkin, which must be paid for in advance. Entry to the open farm is not included. More information can be found on their website.

Brookheys Farm

Brookheys is a working farm and has a wide variety of pumpkins growing, including orange Jack o’ Lanterns, white Polar Bears, mini gourds and wrinkly nobly ones. There is no need to book and you pay per pumpkin.

Reddish Vale Farm

Stockport

Reddish Vale is another farm with a whole range of activities on offer aside from pumpkin picking. These include a zip line, mini train ride, tractor rides, archery, straw maze and much more.

It is one pumpkin per paying child and some of the activities require an additional fee. The Halloween festival runs from 8-30 October. Children’s tickets cost £16.50, adult’s tickets cost £12. There are concessionary tickets for pensioners, carers and childminders at £10.50, but proof of ID may be required. More information can be found on their website.

Lancaster Park and Animal Farm

Lancaster Park has lots of things to this Halloween season, including a haunted house, wicked witch spooky tales and a fancy dress competition, as well as the usual farm activities like animal petting, mini quads and a zipline.

The farm is open for pumpkin picking on weekends 8-9 and 15-16 October, then all week from 21-30 October. Tickets cost £12.50 per child, which includes a pumpkin and Halloween activities. Adults cost £9.50, which does not include a pumpkin. Children 12 months and under get in for free, but must pay £6.50 if you choose to carve a pumpkin. Grange Farm

There’s something for all ages at Grange Farm pumpkin patch – including a bar for the adults selling beer, cider and boozy hot chocolates. Kids can enjoy a spooky maze, get their faces painted and check out the bus.

The pumpkin patch will be open from 8 October, but the catering is not available on all days, so check the website for more information.

Tickets cost £10 per family, maximum five people. It costs £2.50 per extra person if there are more than five in your group. Tickets include entry to the patch and children’s entertainment, Halloween crafts and games. Pumpkins and other activities cost extra.
