The first ever Manchester dog adoption fair is to be held later this month to mark a new charity partnership. City-centre living specialists Affinity Living are the event in collaboration with Manchester Dogs’ Home (MDH).

There will be pictures and information on all of the rescue dogs who are ready to be adopted, and the Dogs’ Home team of experts will be on hand to chat to guests about the prospective adoptees giving special insight into the quirks and personalities of all the pooches looking for a home. The MDH team will also be hosting an urban-pup masterclass, bringing guests top tips and hints about the best ways to raise a dog in an urban environment, in particular apartments.

Guests will also be able to meet some of the happy hounds who have recently been successfully adopted with the help of Manchester Dogs’ Home. Volunteers from the dogs’ home will be able to introduce guests to the dogs in attendance and tell the stories of rescue dog adoption in action, as well as giving  guests an insight into the importance of adopting rather than shopping.

Manchester Dogs’ Home will be selling custom mugs on the day - for £5, guests will be able to get a custom printed mug featuring themselves and their four-legged friend, with 100% of the proceeds going to Manchester Dogs Home.

The event will take place on Sunday November 26 at Affinity Living in Salford. Free tickets can be purchased for the event through Eventbrite.

Charlotte Telfer, Community and Marketing Manager, at Affinity Living, said: “We are proud to be supporting Manchester Dogs Home and we’re delighted that they have chosen us for this event which will help all dog lovers find their pawfect partner as well as provide support and tips on how best to care for dogs in urban environments. We have seen our communities at Affinity Living placing more emphasis than ever on pet ownership.

“It’s a key part of our residents' aspirations in order to lead the life they want to live right in the heart of the city. The benefits of owning a dog are well documented, particularly in terms of mental health and combating loneliness. That’s why we have developed the most welcoming urban residential pet policy in the country and it's at the heart of our new partnership with MDH. This is just the beginning and we look forward to collaborating with the charity and supporting the fantastic work they do over the next 12 months.”

James Ratcliff, Manchester Dogs’ Home manager, added: “We are delighted to be hosting our first city centre rehoming event to launch a very exciting partnership with Affinity Living. As a community that is so committed to pet-ownership and care we want to encourage prospective dog owners at Affinity Living and beyond to consider adopting rather than shopping for their new family member.

“We’ll be on hand to highlight to city centre residents that adopting a dog is possible for everyone -  as long as you have the love to give and the right knowledge you can provide just as fantastic a home for a dog in a city centre apartment as you can in a suburban home. We can’t wait to see you on November 26… See you soon!”
