As 2022 comes to an end, we list five events and activities in Manchester for families and adults to ring in the new year.

2022 has certainly been a year of highs and lows, and as the year draws to an end, Mancunians get ready to celebrate the New Year’s Eve with a bang. The year that saw the end of COVID-19 restrictions and life return to normal in the UK also saw three prime ministers move in and out of Downing Street, record high inflation and Russia invading Ukraine.

With 2023 fast approaching, we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for a cheerful and happy new year. The year will see the coronation of King Charles II and Queen Consort Camilla, the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and locally, Lonely Planet just named Manchester as one of the world’s top travel destinations for 2023.

But before the new year starts, there will be a great selection of New Year’s Eve events in and around the city. From extravagant black tie dinner parties to family friendly events like ice skating in Cathedral Gardens and fairground rides at Tinsel Town at the Trafford Centre.

Manchester City Council have yet to make an announcement on whether they will host any fireworks displays this year. The council cancelled their Bonfire Night display for the third year in a row, citing increasing costs, but if New Year’s will see the same fate is currently unclear.

However, there are plenty of alternatives around the city to see out the year in style. Here are five New Year’s Eve events in Manchester to ring in 2023.
