Manchester is offering a vast selection of fun activities to keep children entertained this half term.
From pirate ship rides to some of the UK’s top museums there is plenty on offer to overcome that holiday boredom. We've rounded up some of the best below.
5. Golden Mummies of Egypt
When: 18 Feb 2023 - 14 April 2024. Where: Manchester Museum, Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL. Cost: Free Manchester Museum’s brand new exhibition hall will host a dazzling exhibition and offer unparalleled access to its Egypt and Sudan collections. With more than 100 objects and eight mummies returning from a huge tour of the USA and China - it provides a rich perspective on beliefs about the afterlife in the Egyptian era to inspire any future historians.
6. The Wizarding Adventure
When: February 22nd. Where: Bolton Street Station, Bury, Lancashire, BL9 0EY. Cost: Adult £20, child £17.50 East Lancashire Railway are offering a spellbinding school of sorcery this half-term. Lessons in the basics of broomsticks, potion practice and instructions of incarnation are all part of the Harry Potter themed adventure. The two-hour wizard experience trip includes a stream train ride from Bury to Rawtenstall and a show from the madcap magicians. There's also a 'Dino Adventure' experience the following day on February 23.
7. Lion Dance at the Portico Library
When: February 21. Where: The Portico Library, 57 Mosley Street, Manchester, M2 3HY. Cost: Free Master Tang’s Lion Dance is taking over The Portico Library. Performers will mimic a lion’s movement in spectacular costumes and intend on bringing good luck to 2024. This year the spectacle will be accompanied with traditional Chinese song and dance to mark the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.
8. Illuminate
When: 24 and 25 February. Where: Oldham Town Centre. Cost: Free A colourful river of light will be taking over Oldham town centre as the enchanting Illumination Parade returns on February 24. The streets will be filled with light, sound and stunning performances that bring them to life. The fun continues at Northern Roots on Sunday, February 25, for ‘By the Light of the Moon’ from 5.30pm to 8pm. The free, family event celebrates the magical world of Moths. There is ample opportunity for participation with free lantern-making workshops at Gallery Oldham on February 20, 21 and 22.
