Manchester Half Marathon 2024: Route, road closures and nearest Metrolink to start line for October run
The half marathon is one of the big running events on the city calendar, with thousands of people taking part. Plenty more people will line the route to cheer on friends and family as they make their way past.
Over 24,000 runners will take part in the half marathon which this year takes place on Sunday October 13. For eight years, the event has grown in success and popularity.

Hide AdOnce again the half marathon route of 13.1 miles will both start and finish at Old Trafford. Runners will make their way through Salford, Stretford and Sale during the run.
With the countdown on, we’ve rounded up some of the key information ahead of race day. Road closures have been announced, and will likely be confirmed by the council in the coming days.
What is the route for the Manchester Half Marathon?


As mentioned earlier the half marathon will get underway at Old Trafford. The finish line will also take runners back to the home of Manchester United.
Highlights of the run will see participants head towards the city centre near Castlefield, around Salford Quays and past Stretford. Runners will go out as far as Sale before returning back to Old Trafford.

Manchester Half Marathon road closures
To keep runners and spectators safe, several roads around Manchester will be closed during the route. Some of the roads will be closed from the day before (October 12).
Race organisers have published a full interactive map showing which roads around the city will be closed. Also included in this are times as to when the roads will be closed.
The A56 will be closed for several hours as this is where the runners will set off from. This is near to Old Trafford and also O2 Manchester Victoria Warehouse. To check out the full map visit the Manchester Half Marathon website.

With roads set to be either closed or busy around Manchester on race day, organisers are encouraging runners and spectators to get around using public transport. The closest tram stop to the start line is Old Trafford, with Trafford Bar and Imperial War Museum a slightly longer walk.
