One of the biggest running events in Manchester is to get a different spot for its finish line next year

Organisers of the Adidas Manchester Marathon have announced that the race event, which takes place in April, will no longer finish near to Emirates Old Trafford. Instead, runners will get a true city centre finish.

On event day in 2025, which will be April 27, runners will finish up on Oxford Road. The finish line will be near to the University of Manchester, with the classic buildings being a welcome sight for weary runners.

Other aspects of the route will remain unchanged in 2025. These include the iconic start close to Manchester United FC in Trafford, and supporter laden sections through Sale, Altrincham and many more in Greater Manchester.

An estimated 36,000 people are expected to take part in the 2025 marathon, which will once again take place on the same day as the London Marathon. With the new finish line location, there'll be plenty of food and drink spots where runners can relax after completing their run.

Andrew Smith, adidas Manchester Marathon CEO said: “We’ve been planning this one for a long time, so it’s a great pleasure to confirm the addition of a truly elite level finish to our event. We’ve listened to the feedback from our participants and local community, as they are at the heart of everything we do.

“This switch combines what already makes the adidas Manchester Marathon special, with the same epic start under Trafford Arch but with significant improvements to the post-finish experience for our heroes and their supporters. Taking place at the same time as London, we know the eyes of the world will be on us, so cannot wait to further showcase everything Greater Manchester and the iconic city centre has to offer. Best of luck to everyone starting out on their marathon journey and see you in April!”
