Manchester concert venue The Stoller Hall releases autumn and winter programme - five great shows coming up

The Stoller Hall in Manchester has unveiled a packed autumn and winter schedule with everything from classical music to jazz, folk and stand-up comedy on the programme.

The venue, which is part of the Chetham’s School of Music complex opposite Victoria station, has announced a packed line-up of events between September and Christmas.

The Stoller Hall has announced a programme bringing together nationally and internationally-renowned names alongside top Manchester talent.

Cellist Steven Isserlis making his debut at The Stoller Hall

Steven Isserlis has been widely acclaimed throughout the world of classical music for his recordings and live performances on the cello, both as a soloist and a chamber musician, and he will be at The Stoller Hall for the first time on Monday 3 October.

Accompanied by Scottish pianist Alasdair Beaton, he will be on the stage at the venue as part of a partnership with Manchester Chamber Concerts Society Series.

The concert will explore the musical relationship between Mendelssohn and Schumann as well as featuring pieces by Chopin and Moscheles.

Dame Evelyn Glennie back at The Stoller Hall

Dame Evelyn Glennie is a pioneering percussionist who has become one of the world’s most acclaimed musicians and artists.

For her latest appearance at The Stoller Hall she will be joined on stage by Trio HLK, three creative UK musicians, for a concert presented in partnership with NQ Jazz.

The musicians will perform a variety of deconstructed jazz pieces and shimmering jazz standards, with a veritable battery of percussion being deployed.

Soweto Gospel Choir commemorating Nelson Mandela

The Soweto Gospel Choir from South Africa have won three Grammy awards and return to Manchester with their Freedom concert tour celebrating the extraordinary life and achievements of Nelson Mandela, a pivotal figure in the modern history of the Rainbow Nation.

They will perform a collection of songs which celebrate and commemorate South Africa’s democratic movement struggle.

Top folk bands from around the UK

The Stoller Hall has a number of high-profile folk concerts in the autumn and winter season as it puts a spotlight on the traditional roots music of the British Isles.

Multi-award winning Scottish folk group Skerryvore will bring their sound which electrically fuses blazing bagpipes, fiddle and accordions with funky rhythms and soul-gripping songs.

And South West duo Show of Hands, a collaboration between acclaimed musicians Steve Knightly and Phil Beer, are teaming up once again with singer Miranda Sykes for an autumn tour blending their back catalogue of roots songs with some new favourites. The group will be in Manchester on 30 October.

Christmas cheer for the festive season

The festive season brings an array of Christmas concerts for all the family to The Stoller Hall, including Dave Gibb’s Family Jukebox which takes music fans of all ages through a surreal and often-bonkers imaginative journey with plenty of toe-tapping numbers along the way.

Legendary ‘70s rock-folk pioneers Lindisfarne will also perform in the run-up to Christmas along with a bit of jazzy festive big band swing courtesy of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.

More traditional Christmas fare will also be on offer at Carols from Kantos, which is expected to sell out for an afternoon of much-loved festive tunes, choral music and audience sing-alongs.
