Wild in Art, the leading producer of amazing public art events has announced a city art trail called ‘Music for the Senses’ which will be launching this summer.

Wild in Art has previously collaborated with partners to create the award-winning “Bee in the City (2018)” and “Read Manchester (2017)” events. Through their work “£28.4m” has been raised for charities and “£4.8m” has been put into “local creative communities.” This year they are back to bring more artistic joy to the city!

However, this time they are asking for your help and this includes your art and guitar donations. These will be used to turn the guitars (new or old) into individual artwork to display across the city in windows and shops.

The plan for this project is to create “Guitar Street” which will be an interactive musically themed art installation by Manchester artist Liam Hopkins. Overall, the piece will comprise of over “100+ broken guitars” donated by the community.

You may also be able to see a guitar displayed by one of your favourite musicians as many have partnered up with the project to have their instrument displayed.

Any guitars that are donated and that are in good condition or of high value will be assessed and donated to a music charity, giving them a second chance at life.

Manchester artist Hammo created the first artwork, paying homage to the Manchester Punk band Loose Articles which is now on display in the window of craft shop, Fred Aldous in the Northern Quarter.

Hammo decided to base the piece on Loose Articles because of them being Northerners and having fond memories of seeing them live with his daughter.

If you want to get involved you can drop your guitar off at music shops and libraries all over the city. Just simply visit the website below to find out your closest drop off point.

All donors will be credited and included in the trail. At the end of the event the guitar art pieces will be auctioned off with proceeds going to grassroots music projects and venues across Manchester.

Go to https://wildinart.co.uk/musicforthesenses/ for details on art submissions and donations and submit by the 21st of April.
